Terms of use

The ground rules

How the website works, what we promise donors, what we ask of volunteers, and how photos and content may be used.

01About these terms

By using this website, donating or volunteering with Mitra Mela, you agree to these terms. They are here to keep donors, volunteers and the communities we work with safe. Please read them with our privacy policy and refund policy.

“Mitra Mela”, “we” and “us” mean Mitra Mela, with its registered office at J-24, Flat 1, Dilshad Colony, Jhilmil, East Delhi, New Delhi 110095. “You” means anyone who uses this website.

02Using the website

  • Use the site lawfully and only for its purpose: learning about our work, donating, volunteering and contacting us.
  • Do not try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site, or collect other people's data from it.
  • Give true and complete information in every form. Do not pretend to be someone else.
  • We work hard to keep the site accurate, but campaign figures, dates and details can change. If something looks wrong, please tell us.
  • We may change, pause or remove parts of the site at any time.

03Donations

Currently, we accept contributions from Indian citizens (including NRIs holding an Indian passport) in Indian Rupees (INR). As we are not yet registered under FCRA, we cannot accept contributions from foreign citizens, OCI/PIO cardholders, or international organisations. Cross-border giving will be enabled soon.

  • When you donate, you confirm that the money is your own, that you are an eligible donor, and that you are not giving on behalf of any foreign citizen or organisation.
  • Gifts qualify for a tax deduction under Section 80G of the Income-tax Act (Section 133 of the new Income-tax Act, 2025), available under the old tax regime. Your donation certificate, Form 10BE (now Form 114), will be issued after the trust files its annual donation statement. You are responsible for claiming the deduction correctly.
  • A gift to a campaign is used for that campaign. If a campaign raises more than it needs, or cannot go ahead, we use the gift for the closest similar need and tell donors how it was used.
  • Monthly gifts continue until you cancel them. You can cancel at any time.
  • Donations are generally not refundable. Mistaken and duplicate payments are handled under our refund policy.
  • Payments are processed by our payment gateway. Its own terms also apply to the payment step.

04Volunteering conduct

  • Applications must be truthful. We verify every volunteer and partner organisation, and we may decline an application without giving a detailed reason.
  • Volunteers follow the code of conduct in their volunteer agreement: respect, punctuality, honesty and no discrimination of any kind.
  • Child safeguarding comes first. Never be alone with a child out of sight of others, never contact a child privately, and report any concern to the trust straight away.
  • Faces of children must not be identifiable without guardian consent. Never share a child's name, school or address.
  • All uploads are reviewed. Inappropriate or unlawful content will be removed, and the volunteer's access may be suspended or terminated. Where the law requires, we will report content to the appropriate authorities.
  • Certificates are issued only for verified service. We may withhold or revoke a certificate if information turns out to be false or the code of conduct was broken.
  • Volunteering is unpaid. You take part at your own risk, and should follow the safety instructions of the trust or partner organisation on site.

05Content and photos

  • The text, photos, videos and design of this website belong to Mitra Mela or are used with permission. Some background videos are AI-generated and are labelled as such.
  • You may share our pages and campaign links freely. Please ask before reusing our photos, and never use them commercially or to suggest we endorse something.
  • When you upload photos or text (for example, volunteer daily logs), you confirm you have the right to share them and that anyone identifiable has agreed. You let Mitra Mela show them on this website and our social media to report on the work. You can ask us to remove them at any time.
  • If you see a photo of yourself or your child that you want removed, write to us and we will take it down promptly.

07Liability

We provide this website “as is”. We do our best to keep it available, accurate and secure, but we cannot promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted.

To the extent the law allows, Mitra Mela is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the website, or for problems caused by third-party services. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.

08Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled by the courts at Delhi, which will have exclusive jurisdiction. We would always rather talk first: please contact us and we will try to resolve any concern quickly.

09Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page is the one that applies. For important changes, we will tell donors and volunteers by email.
